Trip Planner Tips - Alternatives

The Trip Planner reports only fixed-route, regularly scheduled transit service, but local transit agencies also offer other services that you may be able to use to complete or supplement your transit trip. These services help fill in the gaps in transit service where regular service is not available nearby or at the times you want to travel. They are available to anyone.

Park & Ride - Transit service may be available at a park & ride lot that you can easily reach, even if you have no nearby service, and it may operate more frequently, more days per week, or earlier and later than local service. To find a park & ride near you, please visit:

VanShare - This service provides as few as three riders a vehicle with preferred parking and other amenities so that they can share the ride from their neighborhood to a convenient park & ride or from a park & ride to a worksite, using regular transit the rest of the way. For more information visit VanShare.

DART Service - Dial A Ride Transit (DART) is available in some areas where fixed-route service isn't available. Typically you must reserve a ride in advance, but you can usually make reservations for more than one trip at a time. It's known by different names in different localities. To investigate DART service, please visit:

Ridesharing - When regular transit service is not efficient, sharing the ride is an option. For information on joining a carpool or vanpool or starting one from scratch, investigate ridesharing.

Flexcar - Flexcar is a car-sharing program that lets members reserve a vehicle as often and for as long as they want (depending on availability). Cars are kept at many locations in the Puget Sound Region. If you use another type of transportation to commute to work, Flexcar can save you the cost of operating and maintaining a car. Investigate Flexcar.

Special Service to Events - The local transit agencies frequently offer special service to events. That service is usually not included in the Trip Planner. Visit the web site of the transit agency that serves the county in which the event takes place to check for special service. Agencies are listed in Who's Who.
