State Ferries in Trip Plans

The Trip Planner will use Washington State Ferries in trip plans if they help complete the itinerary. This section describes

Entering ferry terminals in the Trip Planner

To enter a ferry terminal in the Trip Planner, use its name. The possibilities are:

  • Bremerton Ferry Terminal
  • Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal
  • Clinton Ferry Terminal
  • Edmonds Ferry Terminal
  • Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal
  • Kingston Ferry Terminal
  • Mukilteo-Clinton Ferry Terminal
  • Seattle Ferry Terminal
  • Seattle Passenger Ferry Terminal
  • Southworth Ferry Terminal
  • Tahlequah Ferry Terminal
  • Vashon Ferry Terminal
  • Point Defiance Ferry Terminal

The Keystone-Port Townsend route and the Anacortes routes are not included, because they do not connect with the transit service that is available in the Trip Planner. Visit Washington State Ferries [external link] for information about them. The Trip Planner does not recognize the terminals for these routes.

Connections to other service

The transit agencies included in the Trip Planner connect directly to these Washington State Ferries. That means you can start or end your trip plan anywhere in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties and some parts of Thurston County, and if a ferry route is available it may be used in the trip plan. If your trip is to or from Kitsap County, the Trip Planner can only take you as far as the ferry terminal at Southworth, Bremerton, Bainbridge Island, or Kingston.

Use the ferry terminal as your starting or ending location and visit the Kitsap Transit web site [external link] for information about service at those locations. Similarly, visit the Island Transit web site [external link] for connections to and from Clinton Ferry Terminal in Island County.

Fares and transfers

If a ferry fare is required, the Trip Planner quotes the full adult cash fare including the ferry fare, unless the trip is on Metro Route 118 Express or 119 Express to Vashon Island. These bus routes board the ferry. The Trip Planner shows the bus fare only, but you must also pay the ferry fare. On trips leaving Vashon Island, no ferry fare is required.

Ferry fares are in addition to other transit fares - no transfers are issued. Ferries charge passenger fares for only one direction of travel so in some instances no ferry fare is required. Links for further information on fares, transfers and passes:

Service exceptions

Ferry service can be delayed by weather and other factors. The Trip Planner only offers the scheduled service - it will not tell you if the ferry is late or cannot run. To check on disruptions to ferry service, check the WSF Vessel Watch web site [external link]. Disruptions to transit routes may be announced by the agency operating the service. See Who's Who for links to their web sites.
